 Huntsville/Madison County: Recreation & Entertainment


Attractions
The Huntsville community offers a variety of cultural and educational attractions for both children and adults. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is the country’s largest collection of space related exhibits and is home to Space Camp, a popular destination drawing thousands of families from throughout the country. The nation’s largest butterfly house is currently under construction at the Huntsville Botanical Garden and the Huntsville Museum of Art annually hosts some of the country’s premier touring exhibitions. Several hands-on, science and children’s museums provide family fun, as well as walking tours of historic antebellum districts and period historic preservation of Alabama’s early history.

Entertainment
Huntsville area entertainment is filled with sporting events, theater, regional concerts and an active downtown nightlife. Local and regional college and professional sports teams feature AA baseball, professional hockey, indoor arena football, university athletics and regional major league sports in Nashville and Atlanta. Theater and arts lovers enjoy a full Broadway season including the best touring shows and entertainers from New York, ballet and classical and jazz musicians. The Huntsville Symphony is a full professional symphony and is one of the south’s oldest and proudest musical groups. Headline musical performers from rock to country and everything in between draw hundreds of thousands of fans to the city’s Von Braun Complex arena. Local performers provide year-round arts, theater and music entertainment, while Huntsville’s’ assortment of restaurants, clubs, coffee houses and dance spots fuel a vibrant and growing nightlife.

Recreation
The natural beauty of the Tennessee Valley’s mountains, rivers and lakes provide a host of outdoor recreational opportunities in the Huntsville/Madison County community. Area residents enjoy hiking, hunting, water sports and an extended golf season due to mild winter weather. Team sports for children and adults are plentiful, including soccer, tennis, cycling and a host of other activities. Area parks, greenways and nature preserves provide an abundance of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

Shopping
The Huntsville community is a regional draw for shopping and entertainment in north Alabama and south Tennessee. Major area malls include national department stores as well as well-know specialty stores and local boutiques. Quaint shopping districts accompany standard neighborhood centers to provide a wide variety of shopping alternatives. Residents also enjoy making day trips to surrounding regional centers such as Nashville, Birmingham and Atlanta for additional shopping opportunities and weekend outings.

Dining
Local dining includes a variety of options from upscale and fine dining to neighborhood restaurants and eateries. Private clubs exist with facilities for groups or special events. Local restaurant owners provide a variety of ethnic and regional tastes along with opportunities for live entertainment and dancing.
