Limestone County, located between Wheeler Lake of the Tennessee River and the State of Tennessee, is one of the smallest counties in land area in the State of Alabama. The City of Athens, the county seat, is uniquely located just off Interstate 65 in the triangle of the busy Huntsville metropolitan area, and the cities of Birmingham and Nashville. The commute from much of Limestone County to Gate 9 of Redstone Arsenal is 15 to 30 minutes and not much more from the most distant communities.
