Once a small farming community alongside the Norfolk-Southern Railway, the City of Madison has been transformed into a diverse, cosmopolitan community that serves as the economic center of Western Madison County.

Madison is a city of 37,000 growing at a rate of 5% per year. It is one of the few cities in Alabama that has a comprehensive land use plan, including drainage, recreation, and transportation elements.
