| Decatur and Morgan County have three outstanding hospitals, along with medical specialists offering a variety of medical skills and treatment for area residents. Decatur General Hospital, Parkway Medical Center and Hartselle Medical Center serve this area, as well as patients from surrounding counties. Decatur General and Parkway both offer full maternity services. The Community Free Clinic of Decatur-Morgan County continues to supply quality medical care and medications for the under-served population of this area.

| Our community is a major transportation hub in the Southeast with two thirds of the country’s population and three quarters of manufacturing jobs in the U.S. within a 750-mile radius. Interstate 65 links Morgan County to a north-south interstate system. This interstate also connects with I-565 to provide an east-west connection. US 72 provides an additional east-west route and US 31 is another north-south link to the area. Located in north-central Alabama, Decatur (the county seat of Morgan County) is situated on the Tennessee River just below the Tennessee state line. Five miles from Interstate 65 (a north-south route), Decatur is 120 miles south of Nashville and 85 miles north of Birmingham.
Morgan County is also served by an outstanding rail-barge system. Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation provide links to major rail terminals and Decatur’s waterfront access ensures that barge traffic continues to be a major source of shipping for the area. The port at Mallard-Fox Creek and the Morgan County Port Authority Docks offer direct access to the Tennessee River, with a nine-foot, year-round navigable channel. The ports also link the area to the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, providing access to major ports in the east and west and to the Gulf Coast.

| Decatur Fire and Rescue provides both basic and advanced life support in trauma and life threatening situations; providing expert care in the critical minutes before a patient arrives at a hospital. The department currently has 72 crossed-trained Firefighters, licensed as Emergency Medical Technicians, 26 of which are licensed Paramedics. Each fire engine in the city is equipped with a defibrillator. The Decatur Police Department has the authority and responsibility to enforce and investigate all local, state and federal laws within the City. The City of Decatur Police Department patrols the area within the police jurisdiction, as well as investigates complaints in the police jurisdiction. The Police Department maintains records of man-hours spent in patrolling the area within the Decatur police jurisdiction.

| The Decatur General Behavioral Medicine Center is a 64-bed psychiatric facility that provides comprehensive psychiatric care, including adolescent, adult and geriatric inpatient services, outpatient services and a 24-hour assessment and referral service. Decatur also has Hospice agencies that offer end of life care for this area’s residents. The Mental Health Center in Morgan County and the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama provide quality mental health and substance abuse treatment to the community. Decatur-Morgan County also provides assisted living facilities such as Country Cottage, The Terrace at Priceville and Morningside of Decatur.
