|Antique, Specialty and Collectible stores abound in the downtown shopping district. The quality of approximately 30 stores in this 3-block radius is a tourist draw within itself. The Hartselle Military Museum Foundation is located in downtown Hartselle and is the home to military memorabilia from the Civil War to present day.
Hartselle is only a short drive to a number of attractions such as the Wheeler Wildlife Center, Hurricane Creek, Point Mallard Aquatic Center, Jesse Owens Museum and the Bankhead National Forest, to name a few.
|Hartselle is home to a smorgasbord of entertainment possibilities. From festivals, Music in the Park, school and church activities to crooning at Steele’s Karaoke there is something for everyone in the family.
Hartselle is within easy driving distance to Talladega the fastest track on the NASCAR circuit, SEC and NFL games, as well as minor league sporting events. We are just a short drive to nightlife, concerts, theaters, and plays. Hartselle is also home to a great selection of local seasonal tournaments in various sports.
Sparkman Civic Center and Park are situated on approximately 160 acres of land centrally located in the city. The facility features an Olympic size pool with two slides (a 100foot slide and a 21 foot drop slide in the deep end of the pool) and concession stand. We are equipped to handle many functions such as: corporate parties, swim meets, birthday parties and team parties. Our civic center has a weight room, two full size basketball courts, racquetball court, meeting rooms, and a fully equipped theatrical stage. We offer many activities such as aerobics classes, water aerobics, painting classes dance classes, karate classes, after school tutoring classes, weight watchers classes, and many others. Sparkman Park now consists of 6 baseball fields, 2 tennis courts, a lighted walking trail (approximately 3⁄4 of a mile), 5 pavilions, 2 playgrounds and 12 batting cages. We are presently in phase 3 of our new soccer complex, which will have as many as 10 soccer fields for our AYSO soccer program and our high school and junior high soccer program. Next to Sparkman Park (within walking distance) we have Grady and Margie Long Park, which has 4 softball fields, press box/meeting room, and a football/soccer field and 4 batting cages. Across town we have Legion Park, which is approximately 10 acres of open space we use for numerous activities such as practice facilities for our youth football, soccer, baseball, and softball. In the plans for this year we are preparing to construct a bicycle and skateboard area in this park. Another park in this area is Walker Park, which is approximately 5 acres and has 2 lighted soccer fields, concession stand and restrooms.
Our youth leagues are a big part of our recreation department and have won numerous state championships as well as a world series. At the present time we have approximately 750 boys in baseball (ages 5- 18); 500 girls in softball (5-18); 350 boys in basketball (7-18); 150 girls in basketball (7-12); 400 boys and girls in soccer (5-18); 100 boys and girls on our swim team (5-18); 250 boys in youth football (5-12); 60 girls in cheerleading for football (5-12) and we are continuously growing and expanding.
Hartselle’s is home to Quail Creek Golf Course, Conference Center and Inn and is within minutes of other fine golf courses, including a few on the Robert Trent Jones Trail. We have eight lighted tennis courts in Hartselle. Hartselle is within 20 minutes of recreational opportunities on the beautiful Tennessee River and within an hour drive to other beautiful lakes in North Alabama. Our immediate area also holds a national forest, national wildlife refuge, fishing challenges of all sorts and boating and water recreation activities of any description.
