Limestone County, located between Wheeler Lake of the Tennessee River and the State of Tennessee, is one of the smallest counties in land area in the State of Alabama. The City of Athens, the county seat, is uniquely located just off Interstate 65 in the Huntsville metropolitan area, and midway between Birmingham and Nashville. The commute from much of Limestone County to Gates 7 or 9 of Redstone Arsenal is 15 to 30 minutes and not much more from the most distant communities.
